Artist of the Moment: Edley Shine – Grow

“Ah da big voice”…

The other day, I was talking to a friend about how much of an impact the genres Hip Hop and Reggae have had on the world internationally. Even though both genres are POWERFUL and a representation of two different cultures, I think sometimes people forget how much influence Hip Hop has had on Reggae music and vice-versa. A Jamaican Deejay (or Selecta as they say in Jamaica), DJ Kool Herc, was credited for being the founder of Hip Hop. Now if we want to get into the nitty-gritty, I think the flows of artists such as Bounty Killer, Ninjaman, and plenty of others from the era of Dancehall when it started to elevate, shows us how much Hip Hop is truly apart of the Jamaican culture as well.

This artist of the moment was a part of an influential music duo, Born Jamericans, who had a unique style that combined Hip Hop and Reggae to bring about a new sound to the music scene, but to also link the American and Jamaican culture together through music. Edley Shine is still doing his thing and keeping up with the evolution of both Hip Hop and Reggae. Check out Edley Shine with his track Grow.
