Tea Tuesday: Ginger

One of my favorite vegetables (I only thought of it as a herb) to use in the kitchen is ginger. This spicy Asiatic vegetable, which is used more as an herb, is a must have in my kitchen. Ginger is versatile not only due to it’s health benefits, but also because you can throw it in about anything and get a unique flavor. If you want to add flavor to your food, sauces, or to your juices, then ginger is a must have in the cabinet.

Turmeric Tuesday


Today we talk about turmeric…
Turmeric? I know some people haven’t heard of this word, much less of the herb, but turmeric is one of the main ingredients found in curry. Belonging to the ginger family (which I didn’t even know, but should’ve due to its shape, but that’s what happens when you get it in the powder or ground form of course; how was I suppose to know 🤷🏽‍♀️), turmeric is a plant native to South-east Asia, prominently, India. You’ll also find this plant grown in China, Jamaica, Haiti, Peru, and Indonesia.

We now live in an era where we can see what’s going on in most parts of the world by pulling out a cell phone. It seems like every day there’s a new breaking story from a different part of the world that just shatters our hearts and toys with our spirits. It would be reasonable to say that what we see on TV, social media, and other platforms, definitely has an effect on our moods, but we fail to realize how it affects our mental health. As African Americans, we are becoming more aware of these issues, yet it still feels like taboo to discuss them due to stigmas, lack of knowledge on mental health, and simply not enough African Americans speaking out about the matter.
